Technical innovation and access to that information is a key value of IEEE membership. IEEE includes many unique technical organizations, active in the areas of publications, conferences and building technical communities.
The University of Florida is proud to have an active Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMBS) society and an active Women in Engineering (WIE) community.
IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society
http://nrg.mbi.ufl.edu/EMBS/embs.htm
The IEEE EMBS Gainesville section seeks to create unique opportunities for interdisciplinary research, education, and training of graduate and medical students in the University of Florida Colleges of Medicine and Engineering. The realization of the mission is the development of new translational (bench to bedside) technologies, new facilities to perform biomedical research, new biomedical curricula, and new mentoring programs for students and professionals. It is a major objective of the UF society to help create the new generation of scientists by providing a vibrant research environment, mentoring, seminars, and undergraduate outreach opportunities in the Colleges of Engineering and Medicine. This motivation is born out of ongoing collaborations between the UF faculty members in the UF McKnight Brain Institute, College of Engineering, UF Medical School, and Shands Hospital. The field of interest of the Society is the application of the concepts and methods of the physical and engineering sciences in biology and medicine. This covers a very broad spectrum ranging from formalized mathematical theory through experimental science and technological development to practical clinical applications. It includes support of scientific, technological, and educational activities.
IEEE Women in Engineering Community

IEEE WIE recognizes women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations. The community organizes events to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE, advocates women in leadership roles and facilitates the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs.
