SoutheastCon is the annual IEEE Region 3 technical, professional, and student conference. Our student branch is competing in the Hardware, Software, Ethics, Outreach, Circuit Design, and Promotional competitions March 20th–24th, 2024 in Atlanta, GA. Our student branch has had tremendous success at SoutheastCon in recent years and was admitted to the exclusive IEEE University Partnership Program due in part to this success.

One of the main goals of the IEEE UF Student Branch is to connect ECE students with industry leaders. IEEE hosts many information sessions with corporate sponsors to enable students to interact with recruiters in order to obtain internships and jobs. Our corporate sponsors benefit from this direct access to the top talent in the ECE department.

Every year, the IEEE UF Student Branch participates in IEEE SoutheastCon and competes in the autonomous robot Hardware Competition. This year's competition challenges IEEE student teams to design a robot to acquire and deliver packages, transport fuel tanks, and stop the "doomsday clock" as part of a space-civilization theme. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their technical and interpersonal skills as they work in a team environment to design and build a capable robot. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to join.

Giving back is crucial. The IEEE UF Student Branch partners with the UF College of Engineering and local Gainesville non-profits to teach electrical and computer engineering concepts to K-12 students. Our student branch also completes outdoor cleanup and gardening events. Check out our community service blog here!

With a renewed focus on technical development, the IEEE UF Student Branch hosts unique events each semester to teach critical technical skills to ECE students. Following invitation to the IEEE University Partners Program, our student branch has begun hosting the Open Project Space program for underclassmen students.

The IEEE UF Student Branch provides peer advising services to aid ECE students in building their course schedules. Students are invited to stop by the IEEE office (MALA 2100B) to receive guidance from one of our officers or chairs.

Tailgates, BBQs, volleyball games with the engineering faculty, and trivia nights with other student organizations are just a few examples of the social events the UF IEEE Student Branch hosts year-round. We understand the importance of relationship-building and fun to round out students' college experience.
